On Sunday, December 28, just a day before Amtrak's Vermonter train switches routes between East Northfield and Springfield, Massachusetts, to the Pan Am Southern Connecticut River Line, Pan Am Southern dispatched a test train to operate over the route to test signals and grade crossing protection one last time. The Test Train - symbol OCS-28 - utilized the Pan Am OCS business cars with FP9 PAR-1 and MEC GP40-2W 510 for the runs. The train is heading toward the connection with New England Central Railroad at East Northfield, where Monday's Amtrak trains will now connect to the new route on the north end.
