On a clear and sunny spring morning, with some greenery evident after the first spring rains, the luxury Blue Train is passing Raathsvlei, as it travels over the link line from Potchefstroom to Houtheuwel, near Vereeniging. From there it will head up through Redan and Meyerton to Germiston and then on to Pretoria. This is Blue Train set no. 2, which is 14 coaches in length and carries 52 passengers. Since the dual voltage class 14E's were withdrawn from Blue Train service, classes 18E (3kV DC) and 7E (25kV AC) have taken over. More recently, the 18E's allocated to work these trains have been the newer locomotives wearing the TFR red livery, such as these two from the 800 series.
