A V&T freight led by 2-8-0 #29 (former Longview, Portland & Northern Railway #680) whips around the Gold Hill depot /freight station while en route to Virginia City, a mile or so further north. At one point, as recent as 2012, there was a spur track which ran towards the visible loading dock. Now abandoned, the depot was acquired by the Gold Hill Historical Society which has performed a loving restoration with hopes that the state will kick in additional funds and open it up to the public. The V&T's Summer excursions terminate here before returning north to Virginia City, making it an ideal stop for snacks and gifts.
