Pouring on the power. A pair of Nevada Northern's big horses take a heavy freight north on the mainline toward Hiline Junction on a clear, cool winter day. On the point is Baldwin #40, a high-drivered 10-wheeler that is equally at home hauling passenger trains or express freights. Providing the big push on the rear is Alco #93, a heavy Consolidation type which was purchased specifically for hauling heavy ore trains. Here, the train is shown on the sweeping curve coming off the eastern end of the Steptoe Creek fill, with the lonely desert city of Ely in the background. It is interesting how the fortuitous timing on this shot makes the exhaust plumes of the two engines almost appear to merge.
