Remarks & Notes |
In a town that it rains more then the sun shines, I found a pair of Alaska GP's working the small yard in town after back loading the ARMS barge in a afternoon downpour. Whittier once a Military town is now one of the Alaska Railroads most important locations. In the summer months it serves as a major Cruise ship/ passenger train hub and is the railroads main interchange point to the outside world with barges to Seattle and Prince Rupert BC. Whittier is unique location as it is a ice free port which allows ships and barges to come all year around unlike Anchorage which freezes over in the colder months. |
