At this point, many others have shared their excellent photos of the Conrail heritage unit leading NS Train 939 on the former D&H on Saturday, February 28, 2015, so I've decided to share an angle of mine that's slightly different. Near Gage Road in Delanson, NY, I chose to do a fairly wide angle to best show the classic Conrail "can opener" scheme. When I was a little kid in the late 1980s and early 1990s, my family often went hiking at the Five Rivers Environmental Center in New Scotland, NY, which was adjacent to Conrail's busy Selkirk Branch. What you see in this photo is a glimpse of the image that was etched in my mind from watching Conrail trains from across a field off the Vloman Kill Trail. Since I was not yet taking photos at that young age, it was a real treat to photograph this engine on Saturday and bring all those nice childhood memories back to life.
