For a few months in the 1990s, the only trains west of Opelika on the former CofG Birmingham main were long-distance locals 45/46, which ran the Childersburg-B'ham segment via other NS lines, as that stretch of the ex-CofG was OOS. By the time this photo was made, the line between Childersburg and the Atlanta mainline at Leeds was back in service and traffic was returning to the line.
