This engine was built by Montreal Locomotive Works, Montreal, Canada on 9/1912 for Canadian Pacific Railway. It was sold on 12/31/1965 to George M. Hart at Rail Tours, Inc in York, PA where it ran on the "Ma & Pa" on May 23, 1967. The engine was transferred 9/1971 to Jim Thorpe, PA. Unknown to many, No. 972 was test-operated at the Strasburg Rail Road after receiving maintenance on the weekend of 8/29-8/30/1979. It was moved back to Strasburg again 1981 and 1983, and finally, in December 1986 for contract repair work. The Strasburg Rail Road acquired the engine in December of 1995. A Partially-built Belpaire firebox was added by SRC in 1997-98 - an attempt, long before the arrival of LIRR #39, to roster a Pennsy style steam engine.
