Lehighton Bicentennials 1 - On a Friday afternoon, I ventured out on the former CNJ main line west of Allentown. I encountered a stopped train near Walnutport, and approached the crew to see why they weren't moving. It turned out that they had a broken knuckle mid-train. Anxious to get the train to a photographable location, I offered the services of myself and my '71 Ranchero to ferry the conductor and a replacement knuckle from the caboose to the break. Eventually, the train got under way, and I shot it in the sun at Palmerton. It looked like the sun would be below the mountains by the time I got to Lehighton, but I decided to get one last shot. At that time, Lehighton - Coxton was a helper district, so having helpers waiting for this train was not unexpected. The surprise was the helper consist - two ex-EL SD45's, including unretouched bicentennial 3632.
