Visitor on the Irvington I.T.
Working adjacent to Conrail's Irvington Industrial Track for the last twelve-plus years has made me accustomed to the air horns of the mostly former Conrail units that are assigned to the Conrail Shared Assets Operation in New Jersey. The unique sound of a Nathan P5 seemed a bit out of place, and this led me trackside to investigate. In a rare instance of "foreign" power visiting the line, Conrail OI-10 appeared through the snow flakes with HLCX 4215 in the lead. This unit was built as SP 7240 in 1984 and more recently was ICE 4205. It still wears IC&Es blue and yellow livery as it grinds upgrade on slippery rail with a heavy string of loaded veg oil cars in tow. Did I mention that this was the first day of spring? The endless winter of 2015 continues in New Jersey! |
