Daylight Return on the Southern - Yesterday, SA31 ran down the Southern Sec. with a single locomotive (see here) , but things got more exciting for fans when the train experienced problems with its air braking system in Farmingdale. The SA31 crew outlawed in Farmingdale and a new crew (SA38) came down late in the night with CSX 2812 to push the train to Lakewood. Usually the train returns with empties late in the night, but the mechanical failure set up a sought-after Friday afternoon return. This uncommon daylight move not only included two locomotives both running LHF, but also occurred during the height of a splendid late winter snow storm. Since the sun would be behind the returning northbound train, the snow storm provided what I believe were ideal conditions. All the info on this freight move were acquired from the “CR on the Southern Secondary” thread at Railroad.net.
For the train and storm chaser. Trains with thunderstorms, dark clouds, rain, lightning, hurricanes - tropical storms, funnel clouds, storm light, rainbows, and snow storms.
