Remarks & Notes |
How’s this for vintage power in the UP North Yard! Union Pacific 1295 (MP15DC) and Minnesota Zephyr 788 (F7A) have a few things in common (besides being just way cool). Both were built by the Electro Motive Division and served primarily two masters. UP 1295 was built in 1974 and spent most of its career with the Southern Pacific as SP 2696 until assimilated into the Union Pacific empire and repainted armour yellow. MNZX 788 was built in 1949 for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad and served the CNW for most its career, although carrying different numbers (4082A and 410). It last served as the lead engine for the Minnesota Zephyr Dinner Train and will soon join the rest of the Zephyr passenger cars to once again carry train buffs, this time for the San Luis Rio Grande Railroad which is based in Alamosa, Colorado. |
