Remarks & Notes |
With all crew members intently keeping a sharp lookout on the route ahead, ST&E slowly trundles down Roosevelt Street after pulling the Union Pacific interchange with a fair sized train. Displaying its former interurban heritage, street running was once common place in many big cities. Nowadays railroads with street running are a nuisance and the subject many city council leaders dream of getting rid of for it disrupts the tranquility of its constituents. Still, it's pretty unique to watch something the size of a train travel down the middle of a street while the neighbors take it all in. And it just wouldn't be California without the ubiquitous palm tree looming proudly in the background now would it. |
