Before the High Speed: Today this track has been upgraded for 110 mph with heavy rail and concrete ties. 110 mph running is planned to be instated by 2017. In 2007 though, the Springfield Sub was a much more humble line, mostly 60 mph track, with some spots of 40 mph, and the sidings were a terrifying 10 mph. Seriously, a lot of engineers would only do around 5 mph, it was bad. Here on a sunny August afternoon, a Southbound grain train comes past the Auburn siding, I was on a Northbound, waiting for this to arrive.
