The 119 Re 460 locomotives of the SBB have now reached about half of their lives, they were built between 1992 and 1995. Every day, the locomotives travel a route that would extend 2.5 times around the earth. In the next few years they receive a large revision with some new features, with a new IGBT converter from ABB (replacing the current GTO converter) is the most expensive and important part.
As a prototype, the loco Re 460 084 "Helvetia" went through this work in the industrial plant in Yverdon, but the new converter has not yet been installed. The locomotives keep their timeless and elegant color scheme, but get on the fronts little SBB signets. The revision of all 119 locomotives at a cost of around CHF 230 million will be held from 2017-2022. The locomotive Re 460 084 is pulling Interregio 1713 Geneva-Brig near Sierre.
