Remarks & Notes |
Ab 608 was built by NZR Addington (Christchurch) in 1915 and named "Passchendaele" in 1925 as a War Memorial for over 400 railwaymen who perished in WW1. It is now owned by NZ Railway & Locomotive Society who restored it for the centenary. This ANZAC Day Excursion was part of 100th annual remembrance ceremony at the National War Memorial in Wellington. ANZAC Day is observed in Australia and New Zealand to remember the sacrifice of serviceman, the date marking the first ANZAC deployment as part of the Allied landing on Gallipoli peninsula, Turkey in 1915. |
