Amtrak No. 5, the westbound California Zephyr, stops traffic on Virginia Street in Reno, Nevada, on March 11, 2003. The city happened to be changing light bulbs from clear to green on the famous sign for St. Patrick’s Day 2003 in this view, not helping the traffic situation either. The following year, construction began on the “Reno Trench,” that would soon thereafter take trains below street level.
