Remarks & Notes |
Maintenance of Way equipment is needed to take on some tough jobs and one of most well-known types of MoW equipment is the Difco Dump car built by the Differential Steel Car Company of Findlay, Ohio. These specialized gondolas are dump trucks on steel wheels that can drop large loads of rock or what have you on either side of the tracks. Because of their versatility they can last longer than the railroads that originally purchased them as in the case of this one built in January of 1977 for the L&N. This “Old Reliable” certainly lives up to the famous L&N slogan as it’s still doing MoW work for successor railroad CSX. |
