Remarks & Notes
This is the flood loader and coal storage silo at Skyline, Utah at the end of the 19 mile long Union Pacific Pleasant Valley Subdivision. Elevation here is over 8000 feet. This slightly overpowered, one car train has just finished picking up this single bad order hopper. The 3 unit power set was dispatched earlier from Helper yard where it is normally used for the Dirt Train local. The lead engine, UP1373, is a very rare GP40P-2, one of only 3 ever built. It was originally built for the Southern Pacific as commute power around San Francisco. That rear extension of the long hood once held a steam generator. These 3 engines finally displaced the last of the FM Train Masters in commute service. To me the 1373 looks totally out of place in the Utah mountains.
