A BNSF Z train rolls east near Leavenworth, WA as it exits the Chumstick cutoff and joins the Wenatchee River valley for the final 22 miles into Wenatchee. The scenery is transitioning from Ponderosa pines to apple orchards, and in the last lap to Wenatchee will become almost desert like. In 2003 you could almost set your watch by this eastbound midday train. Not so much in the last year or so. |
