Illinois Terminal SW-1200 780 and its train were in the clear at Bissell, Ill. for Illinois Central’s Train 21 “Green Diamond” to zip past on its run from Chicago to St. Louis on July 11, 1962. ITC had trackage rights over the IC for a little ways north out of Springfield on its run to Peoria. After an hour layover in St. Louis, the Green Diamond will return to Chicago all within 12 hours and 15 mins. Named after the company’s herald, the train began in May 1936 and its last run was May 19, 1968.
