By 1985, patronage on the Jim Thorpe-based excursions had grown, as witnessed by this three-car train leaving Jim Thorpe. With the acquisition of the ex-CNJ trackage by the county, extended excursions could now run on the main line, and not be relegated to a side track as they were under Conrail ownership. The ten-wheeler is temporarily lettered Cumberland Valley for a series of commemorative excursions out of Harrisburg. In the background is freshly painted CNJ 1554, still a month away from dedication by owner Hawk Mountain Chapter, NRHS, and the school busses are present to support the burgeoning Lehigh River whitewater rafting business. Today, the 4-6-0 is in pieces at Strasburg.
