A local crew from Reading is in the process of picking up 30 empty hoppers at the Dyers stone quarry on the Reading Belt Line. These hoppers are not destined to be loaded with stone today. Instead, this train will proceed east to Birdsboro, and then travel down the northernmost remnant of the Wilmington and Northern branch to the Joanna ore mine near Morgantown. The mine has been shut down, and the remaining stockpiles of iron ore are being cleaned out, serviced by a short-lived once-per-week 30-car train. This train will travel down the branch, drop its 30 empties at the mine, and return to Reading with 30 loads, which will be forwarded to Bethlehem Steel in Bethlehem. As soon as the stockpiles are gone, the branch will be abandoned, leaving the W&N intact only from Wilmingonton to Coatesville.
