The last Orangedale Whistle.
What could be the last time Cape Breton & Central Nova Scotia runs a 'train' over the Sydney Sub is seen passing the Orangedale Station, August 14, 2015. The Orangedale Station is the setting for The Rankin Family's song, "The Orangedale Whistle". Due to deceasing freight loads and increasing line costs the CBCNS decided it was in there best interest to close the line, against the wishes of the Nova Scotia Government who had been giving them 10 million a year to keep the line open.
As the final verse of the song goes (With a minor modification):
The winds of change forever blow
Some things stay and some things go
The falling rain must melt the snow
The Orangedale whistle will [sadly no longer] blow
