Remarks & Notes
Morning at Zacapa. The daily train to the El Salvador border pulls out of the station. The Guatemala Division of the IRCA had been nationalized two years before, but the private owners still ran the Salvador division. So the interchange at the border involved more than a bit of rivalry. Despite most Fegua engines being run out and rather sad looking, the train to the border from Zacapa always sported an engine recently out of the shops. This both put on a good face at the border and minimized the chances of a road failure over what was an rather isolated line.
