Salt Lake City's Union Pacific Depot had its tracks removed in favor of mall development in anticipation of the 2002 Winter Olympics. Same for the Rio Grande depot down the street, where Amtrak California Zephyr, Pioneer and Desert Wind trains stopped.
Salt Lake City shoved their passenger trains under a crummy overpass further away from downtown while rendering two magnificent depots trainless in the name of retail development. As the years went on, rail slowly started making a comeback in the form of TRAX and FrontRunner commuter trains, so riders do have means of getting between the Amshack and downtown as shown.
