Remarks & Notes |
Feilding District Steam Rail excursion train homeward from National Park descends towards Ohakune. The active volcano Ruapehu 2797m dominates the scene. A lift on Turoa ski field can be discerned on the slopes and there is another ski field on the other side. The line was electrified in the 1980's and these 4000 HP locomotives supplied by Brush in UK. They remain the most powerful operated by KiwiRail but have an uncertain future as diesel replacements are considered. |
