Running right on schedule, Amtrak's number 5 train, aka the westbound "California Zephyr," splits the signals at Buda, IL on BNSF's Mendota Subdivision as it heads toward Galesburg where its next station stop will occur. The #5 California Zephyr runs daily between the cities of Chicago and San Francisco making a number of stops in between including major ones at Omaha, Denver, Salt Lake City, Reno and Sacramento. Scenic highlights of this train include taking a trip through the beautiful Rocky Mountains west of Denver and over the Sierra Nevada via Donner Pass. Along for the ride today at the end of the train is the C&O private car "Chapel Hill." The clear indication on the opposite track is for an eastbound manifest that would rumble through about 25 minutes later. Pretty good for shooting through a chain-link fence.
