A 1967-built ex-NYC GP40 leads a MARC PX out of Gettysburg, bound for Hagerstown, MD. The train is about to enter the railroad cut, where, on the morning of July 1, 1863, the Confederate brigade of Brig. Gen. Joseph R. Davis was severely handled by elements of the Union I Corps. The Union regimental monuments of the 95th New York and 6th Wisconsin are in the foreground. For the rest of the story, see "Gettysburg--The First Day," by Harry W. Pfanz, UNC Press.
