The sun shines over Norfolk Southern's Andrews Yard in Columbia, South Carolina, a week after being flooded by hurricane Joaquin. The heavy rains caused severe flooding, which resulted in many washouts and service disruptions. All of the rail lines into Columbia suffered damage and were unoperational. NS and RJ Corman crews have been working 24 hours a day to repair the damages. As of Friday, October 8, three of the four major NS routes through town have been reopened. Rock trains were staged at Andrews Yard to facilitate repairs, while revenue freight was held in the yard awaiting departure. Photo by Casey Thomason.
