FINIS - The last few seconds of the GG-1's illustrious career are ticking off as 4879 leads NJT commuter train 3323 off of the Raritan Bay Swing Bridge at sunset. When 4879 stopped at the South Amboy Station in less than a mile, the GG-1 ended a nearly 50 year revenue service career, with the first GG-1, 4800, having been delivered in 1934. The last operations of a GG-1 in any capacity were the next day as NJ Transit operated special excursions to mark this milestone. If you look closely, you can see streamers on the front pantograph as well as someone recording a movie of this run from the rear cab.
