First afternoon on the Coast Line! After seven days of railfanning the Oregon Trunk, the Shasta Line, Donner, Tehachapi, and Soledad Canyon, I was ready to relax a bit. It was quite the relief to limp out across the beach north of Ventura, peel the boots off of my sore and blistered feet, and walk in the moist beach sand with waves gently crashing over my feet. That evening, it was nice to be able to enjoy a short walk through the sagebrush above the ocean and catch northbound Amtrak 777 as it skirted the coastal bluffs between Seacliff and Carpinteria, giving justice to the name "Pacific Surfliner".
