Contrast of Technology - Some seventy years before this photo was taken, I’m sure the designers and installers of the Erie’s signal system had no idea that the signals would one day be governing the movement of trains with auto racks and flagmen named Fred. To the best of my knowledge, in Class 1 service, the semaphores on the southern tier line were the last ones in the eastern United States.
