When Santa Fe Railway sold off some power to Morrison-Knudsen in the 1990s, I dreaded finding these on trains as they were just not the same as a locomotive painted in full Santa Fe markings. But now, a decade and a half later, I'm still not nuts about them, but I am not sorry I shot a few, either. MKMX SD45 5366, seen at Fullerton, California, rolled out of EMD's La Grange, Illinois, factory in October 1966 as Santa Fe 1832. With Santa Fe 1969 renumbering project, 1832 became Santa Fe 5532. A rebuilding later would give this unit a third road number - Santa Fe 5366. It would retain this number under M-K ownership before being rebuilt to SD40-2 specifications by subsequent owner CIT Group/Capital Finance, Inc. (CEFX).
