| With rumors circulating that Norfolk Southern was to idle the West Virginia Secondary (Ex-NYC) line after the first of the year, the wife and I decided to take a road trip down the line today. Coal traffic has been feast or famine over the last year but we have hit the buffet over the last two weeks. After missing a drag leaving Hobson for Columbus this morning we were alerted to a manifest (#381) that was to run. As we worked south we came up empty handed but our consolation prize awaited at Dickinson yard, the origin for most coal and the #381. The Savannah and Atlanta back to back with the NS #1083 on a drag ready to go. The units were tied down/shut down, but would leave later in the evening. The move required the power to run around the train leaving the #1065 to trail out. Taken 1/3/2016. |
