Conrail in Cornell Red – Almost eight months after the northeastern railroad scene has undergone its most dramatic transformation, many of the local activities continue on as usual. Here Lehigh Valley RS11 7640 and “hammerhead” RS3 211 lead a Lehigh Valley caboose and a cut of cars westbound through South Bethlehem. The train, most likely the Florence Local, is diverging from the original LV main to cross the Lehigh River and head to Allentown yard. The 7640 was later rebuilt as Conrail MT4 slug 1023, while the 211 was re-engined with an EMD prime mover and survives, repainted as LV 211, at the Rochester & Genesee Valley Museum.
