Owing to a series of persistent landslides and washouts, the portion of the famous 2'6"-gauge Darjeeling Railway between Kurseong and the mainline connection at New Jalpaiguri had been out of service for about five years when I visited in April of 2015 (service between Kurseong and Darjeeling remained unaffected.) At this time, the line had been repaired but not yet returned to service, and I happened upon a test train seen here coming up into Kurseong via the otherwise out-of-service portion of the line.
Service was restored on the full length of the line in June, but continuing problems forced its shutdown again just three days later. Finally, early in December, repairs were completed and the line has been operating normally since.
Photographs where trains and people mix, weather it's street running, plant switching or carrying a unit grain train out of an elevator, it will be put here.
