Amtrak AEM-7AC 948 runs out some of its last miles before retirement as it speeds train 174, one of the carrier's ubiquitous Northeast Regional trains (this one heading from Washington DC to Boston, MA), through Newark, Delaware. Built by EMD/ASEA in 1998 as an AEM-7, Amtrak 948 was later upgraded to an AEM-7AC. By January 23rd, 2015, the date of this photo, these workhorses were already becoming rare as their replacements - Siemens ACS-64 electric locomotives - were becoming more numerous.
