Remarks & Notes |
Take what you can get Rumors had been circulating for months as Norfolk Southern has been looking to trim unused rail lines due to a fatally ill coal market. As such, the northern section of the rarely-used ex-NYC West Virginia Secondary in Ohio and part of West Virginia has been mothballed due to lack of sufficient traffic.
Where does this leave the numerous industries in the "chemical valley" of the Kanawha River? With a new version of the once-daily trains 380/381. Originally running from Columbus to Dickinson, the trains full of chemicals and other miscellaneous freight will now run south via the ex-Virginian Princeton-Deepwater district and Guyandot River Branch (reportedly the first time in over 30 years since general manifest traffic ceased) before meeting the Pocahontas Division mainline for distribution across the States. |
