BNSF's fleet of EMD SD70ACes are somewhat of an oddity in California, normally spending their time hauling coal out of Wyoming's Powder River Basin or roaming former BN lines in the north and east. With coal traffic on the decline some of BNSF's 'coal motors' have bumped over to assignments on former Santa Fe lines through the West and Southwest, even, on occasion, finding their way onto BNSF's hot 'shooters'. Painted in late afternoon sun BNSF SD70ACe 9061 has command of the eastbound Z STOWSP as it marches up the Tehachapi grade at Cable. Leaving Cable the Mojave Subdivision leaves the oak studded Tehachapi hills for the brief open spaces of the Tehachapi Valley.
