Early in the Family Lines era a pair of SCL Hamlet-NOLA run-through trains were established utilizing the Western Railway of Alabama between Atlanta and Montgomery. In the photo, 216 - with the usual GP40 quartet - has stalled on the Southern crossing at Opelika. When the trains were first added to the WofA timetable (alongwith L&N run-throughs 213/214), they often seemed to be run as extras on existing WofA schedules, as in this photo.
Photos taken in the Deep South--primarily Alabama and Georgia--from the 1970s to the early 2000s. Featured railroads include the ICG, the West Point Route, SCL, Southern, Frisco, and even KCS.
