Remarks & Notes |
The Alaska State Fair is a two week long annual celebration that punctuates the end of summer in the 49th State. The fairgrounds in Palmer sit right beside the ARR's normally freight only branch but for two weekends the railroad runs two or three (four counting a deadhead turn) round trips on Fri, Sat, & Sun for two weekends. The first Friday night of the fair is also the one night they shoot off fireworks. The last train of the night is supposed to arrive at 10 PM and depart at 10:15. With the fireworks set to start at 10 sharp we were set up to shoot the train at the South Palmer Depot with the fireworks overhead. Unfortunately the train was about 15 min late and pulled to a stop just as the last of the rockets burst in the night sky. Here the train is seen pulling in as happy revelers wait on the platform and old glory flutters atop one of the carnival rides |
