The small village of Goodview, Virginia, was awoken just before sunrise this morning by an impressive display of steam from N&W class J number 611 as it led train 955 along the former Virginian mainline. The temperature was in the high teens, making the exhaust that much more impressive. The J departed Roanoke at 6:10am, leaving its home of the Virginia Museum of Transportation, headed to the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer for routine mechanical work to prepare it for this year's round of public excursions.
