After UP took over WP, which had a diesel fleet of four-axle units, Omaha began operating the Feather River Route with the C-C units of that era - SD40s and Dash-2s and U30Cs and C30-7s. WP's B-Bs - even some nearly new GP40-2s - were reassigned to local service, and some were sent east to work on 'flatter' lines. In the photo, WP 3556 has been demoted from first-line duty to powering a lowly local on a UP branchline in Kansas. That's the Missouri Pacific Pueblo main at right, with a long passing track beside. All three tracks are gone now, though - last time I checked - the Bridgeport elevator still stood, but apparently not in use.
Not
just heritage schemes, not just commemorative schemes - this album is devoted to some of the world's most interesting paint schemes, past or present.
