The D&H dispatcher made a decision that didn’t sit well with railfans on August 23, 1992. On the previous day, train 700 had gone south with a CP M636/M424/M636 power consist, and expectations were that returning train 701 would run with the same power. Meanwhile, train 556 had three elephant-style EMD’s with a Grand Trunk leader. Since both returning trains had light consists, they were combined, and of course, the MLW’s were buried behind the three backwards GM products. Here the combined 555/701 rolls west on Conrail’s Philadelphia line at Pottstown, Pennstlvania.
