Battling up the western slope of the Tehachapi grade at the bottom end of Marcel is BNSF's eastbound loaded coil steel train, running with three big road motors on the point and aided by two more shoving on the rear, which have just come into view in the distance. Evident in this photo is the finished efforts of contractor Granite, who had just completed, on the 1st of April, the new right of way between Walong and Marcel. This project, mainly backed by BNSF, will eliminate the 4800' siding at Walong and the 6189' siding at Marcel to create a brief stretch of double track to help ease congestion on Tehachapi.
