The weatherman said this day was supposed to be partly cloudy, so I took off on the roughly 80 mile drive over to the Deseret Power Ry’s terminal in far western Colorado to see if I could get some shots of the afternoon train. Well, that partly cloudy turned out to be mostly cloudy and it was centered right over me. If that wasn’t enough when I got to the loadout area there was no train to be seen. The morning train was still out on the line somewhere to the west and running late. So I picked out a spot I have shot at several times before and waited. After an hour or so, I heard the empty, eastbound train blow for the Deserado Mine Road crossing about a mile west of my location and I knew I only had a couple of minutes until it was showtime. There are only a very few places in the country where you can find electric freight operations and I am fortunate to live close to one of the best.
