"Waste Management Shuttlewagon on the Lower Montauk" Waste Management of Long Island City's Shuttlewagon hauls a cut of empty trash container flats from Bliss Yard to the new WM load transfer facility not even a half a mile away, via the Lower Montauk Branch. At the transfer facility, the empty containers will be swapped with loaded containers and the Shuttlewagon will then shove the cut back to Bliss Yard, pick another cut and repeat the process. The Lower Montauk Branch was once controlled by LIRR but was switched to Manual Block (via New York & Atlantic Railway Yard Master) when LIRR stopped deadheading trains on the line a few years ago. This allows for this unique operation to exist.
