Remarks & Notes |
"Amtrak Regional Over the Bronx River Bascules Bridge" Amtrak Northeast Regional 170 heads east over NYNH&H RR Bridge #3.40 also known as the "Bronx River Bascules" on Amtrak's Hell Gate Line. The bridge was built by the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad in 1908 originally carrying 4 tracks over the Bronx River. Today the Bridge carries 3 tracks, 2 Amtrak and 1 CSX and is permanently locked shut after the huge decline in boat traffic in the area. Due to the location of the Bridge, this is one of the only views of the bridge not on Amtrak territory. Also due to the path of the sun this shot can only be done using the first two Regionals of the morning OR during somewhat cloudy weather. |
