The last rays of light reflect from the surrounding glass covered skyscrapers across North 16th Street illuminating the facade of Philadelphia's Suburban Station. This 21 story building, opened on September 28, 1930 in the heart of the city, was built to replace the above ground Broad Street Station. This station, which serves SEPTA Regional trains, survives today, though once past the front doors, the interior is much like NY Penn Station in that it is rather drab and utilitarian. Below ground, the former PRR commuter lines have been connected through a tunnel to SEPTA's former Reading lines which were also stub ended at the nearby Reading Terminal.
